This unit for Years 5 & 6, Exposing Truth, Embracing Diversity, has been designed to investigate the effects of racism in sports through the experiences of AFL star Adam Goodes and

• support students to use film, visual texts and newspaper headlines to critically analyse the media's role in shaping public perception and action during significant events
• develop an understanding of the power of words and their impacts on individuals and communities
• equip students to articulate thoughtful perspectives on complex social issues
• develop critical thinking and empathy by examining diverse viewpoints and the emotional impacts of racism
• explore the historical and ongoing effects of Australia's Constitution on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• engage students with the Uluru Statement from the Heart, understanding its significance and implications
• encourage personal reflection on identity and the importance of cultural pride for First Nations peoples
• foster an inclusive classroom environment where students can express and respect diverse cultural perspectives.
