These resources are part of the Containers for Change Western Australia suite of resources, created with Western Australia’s Containers for Change.
This Year 5 unit, Rescuing Resources, is designed to
- increase awareness of the social and economic impacts of the Containers for Change Western Australia initiative
- develop vital maths skills in converting between common metric units of measurement
- give students an opportunity to investigate how graphs and charts can be used to convey information about recycling and make decisions about which graphs to use to represent data
- introduce learners to a circular economy and its impact on our consumption of natural resources
- support learners to understand how messaging, visuals and language tools can be used to influence people’s behaviour and create multimodal behaviour change media that promotes participation in Containers for Change
- improve understanding of how glass is made and develop connections between sand, glass, recycling and circular economy
- develop students’ understanding of how fundraising through the Containers for Change initiative supports local community groups.
