This unit focuses on understanding the relationship between the economy, nature, and society to develop a sense of shared values and build sustainable and ethical financial knowledge. Students will explore alternative measures of progress, including the UN Human Development Index, the OECD Better Life Index, and the Happy Planet Index, as well as analyze the flaws of GDP as a measure for a country’s success. They will also investigate the social and environmental risks associated with global supply chains and develop a campaign to encourage social action. Finally, students will consider the importance of businesses maintaining a competitive advantage and the concept of externalities.
