Step 1.

Discuss:

What changes to our environment are we seeing due to climate change?
What animals have been affected by changes to their environments due to climate change? Likely answers may include polar bears, koalas, whales.
What human factors are contributing to climate change?
What individual action can humans take to reduce global warming?

If students are struggling for answers, you might want to revisit some of the lessons across this unit.

Find out: Explicit teaching about communication methods

Step 1.

Explain to students that they will select an animal to research and use the internet to find key facts about their animal and how their environment has been affected. They will then spread the word about climate change and the actions that humans can take to limit global warming using their choice of communication method.

Step 2.

Different mediums for communication have different advantages and disadvantages - this is why all of our media is not homogenous.

As a class, or in small groups, create a table that compares different forms of media. For example:

Take action: Create a communication piece to educate and encourage

Step 1.

Share with students (via the Student Worksheet) a list of animals affected by climate change and websites that they could use to search for key information.

Remind students that not all facts on the internet are true and to fact check.

Step 2.

Independently, students conduct research on their chosen animal.

Step 3.

Finally, students spread the word using a medium of their choice, such as:
