Step 1. Explain to students that they will be making an inclusive well-being video.

Step students through the following guidelines.

Create a wellness tutorial video being as creative and inclusive as you can be. This can include anything that’s health and well-being related such as a gym class tutorial, how to complete an obstacle course, meditation tutorial, mindfulness tutorial, yoga class, dance class, aerobics class, rock climbing tutorial etc.
The video should be less than 3 minutes long!
It should follow one of these themes: health and well-being, creativity, or inclusion and diversity.

Step 4. Using the whiteboard or a shared document, have students list all the different ways they could demonstrate 'inclusion and diversity' in their video, for example:

include subtitles and images
include verbal instructions
make sure people with different physical abilities can participate
make sure the instructions are simple and clear
make sure someone who speaks a different language can understand the instructions (this could include sign language or visual cues/demonstration).

Step 1. Play some of the following wellness videos that demonstrate inclusive practices. Choose which videos you think will work best with your class.

Invite students to reflect on the different videos they saw. Have them turn to a partner and talk about what they noticed. Ask each pair to share one observation with the class.

Step 2. As a class, decide what your wellness video will be about. To keep it easy, choose one of the four wellness areas below:

moving our bodies
making healthy and safe choices
learning through movement
positive interactions with others.

You could invite students to share ideas and vote or you could create your own list and conduct a poll (you can make a digital poll on Crowd Signal). Some ideas for topics could include:

gym class tutorial
how to complete an obstacle course
meditation tutorial
mindfulness tutorial
yoga class
dance class
‘how-to’ for interacting with friends
rock climbing tutorial
nutrition workshop
healthy cooking class.

Note: Students can be as creative as possible and use their imagination, so don’t feel limited by the above list. You can make a video about any activity that is related to health or wellness.

Step 3. Using filing cards or a storyboard template (you can make a digital storyboard on Canva), have students work as a team to plan out the video. Use photos, drawings, descriptions or magazine cuttings to add dimension to your storyboard. This might take a while, so pick a wall in your classroom that won’t be disturbed while you work on this project.

Step 4. Once you have planned out your video, check it against the following list:

Have you remembered to align your video to one of the four components of wellness?
- Moving our bodies
- Making healthy and safe choices
- Learning through movement
- Positive interactions with others
Does your video have a clear call-to-action?
Is your idea creative?
What might prevent someone from participating in your activity? Can you think of a way for them to participate?
How could you improve it to get more points?

Step 5. Now it’s time to think about how you will film your video.

List all the materials you will need, including filming equipment and costumes. What will you need to make or bring to school before filming?

Extension opportunity: Think about what you might need to learn before you start. For example:

Would your students like to use a green screen?
Will they need lighting if filming indoors?
Will they have to learn how to do animation or claymation?
Will they need to learn how to use microphones?

Will they have to learn about framing and composition?

Take action: create and enter

Step 1. Allow students to rehearse their scenes and plan out how they will be filmed. They might take some rough footage using portable devices.

Step 2. Film each scene, remembering to use any props, costumes, or equipment needed to enhance each scene. You might like the students to do this themselves, or allocate staff members.

Step 3. Using a video editing app, edit each scene together and add transitions, a title slide, credits, music and sound effects (as needed).

Step 4. Celebrate your video with a viewing! You might choose to watch the video as a class, or you might share it with your year level, the school, or your parents and friends. Make it an event by allowing students to bring in some snacks, and share their experience in the school newsletter or blog.

Reflection

Invite students to individually write one to two paragraphs that describe their experience of being involved in making the wellness video. They might reflect on what they learned or enjoyed, or what challenges they faced and how they responded to them
